University coffee shops: a sign of the deregulation of higher education?
At UOW all non-bar retail outlets are leased by Wollongong UniCentre, which runs the popular Yard cafe between the library and communications buildings. It serves Vittoria coffee and is visited by students in the nearby Arts building.
Rush 2 is near the post office in the Student Central precinct. They serve good muffins and you can work on your laptop uninterrupted.
Or try Rush, on the other side of the McKinnon lawn. Once the plaything of law scholars and the university administration, it’s now accessible to a wider range of consumers.
My favourite espresso shot was from the coffee cart in the courtyard between the mathematics and engineering buildings. The Italian owner served you personally.
Who knows what people will enjoy on campus in another 10 years…
