Letter I wrote to Laurie Ferguson MP

Dear Laurie

I am writing to bring your attention to a program run here in Campbelltown which is at risk in regard to its funding future.

Hospital to Home is program run by CAN Mental Health Inc (ABN 63 243 867 850) and supports mental health consumers who have had a recent experience at the inpatient unit to return to community-based care.

Research tells us that people in the two weeks following discharge from a mental health facility are at the greatest period for risk of relapse into mental ill-health, or indeed death by suicide.

The program is funded by the Department of Health as a National Suicide Prevention Project and funding for 2015-2016 has not been confirmed. As a constituent in Werriwa and a member of CAN Mental Health’s not-for-profit board, I take a special interest in this matter.

Can you please make representations on my behalf to the effect:

-That the funding status for the Community Connections mental health program is confirmed as soon as practicable
-That the government provides reasons for the decision to continue or cease funding

I look forward to your reply.
